“Cup and Cups” is unique exhibition by two different artists: photographs by Rachel Gordon and paintings and drawings by Joseph Connelly. Curator: Rachel Ziv

Rachel Gordon is a photographer and performance artist. Her documentary photographs include cups and other things left behind in public spaces. She has thousands of photographs of coffee cups, plastic cups, pacifiers, shoes, bottles, food containers, and diapers. They show the objects just as she found them. She sees the beauty and levity in mundane objects. Through her eyes they are not garbage or junk, but intriguing subjects for artistic creation.

Joseph Connelly is a conceptual and performance artist whose work is often performed or produced in public spaces. These drawings are not still lifes. They are fanciful, imagined objects in imagined spaces. He sees the cup and teapot images as a metaphor for creativity. The relationship between the teapot and the cup is rarely fair. Sometimes the cup is unable to contain all the teapot is ready to provide. Sometimes the cup’s need is much greater than the teapot’s ability to supply.

In addition to their solo work, the artists collaborate together as Gordon & Gordon Art. Over the last 14 years, the team has collaborated on a variety of pieces – durational, site specific, web sites and audience participatory.

הצילומים של רחל הם תיעודיים. רחל מצלמת כוסות בסביבה העירונית ולא רק. בחדות עין של אמנית היא צדה במצלמתה כוסות וחפצים שהושארו במרחב הציבורי, ברחובות העיר ובצידי דרכים. לרחל יש אלפי צילומים של כוסות קפה, כוסות פלסטיק, מוצצים, נעליים, בקבוקים, מיכלי מזון, וחיתולים. לעינינו נראים האובייקטים בדיוק כפי שהיא מצאה אותם. היא רואה בחפצים, באופן הסתמי שלהם יופי. בעיניה זו לא אשפה וזבל סתם, אלא נושאים מסקרנים לעבודה ויצירה אומנותית.

יוסף קונלי הוא אמן מושג ומיצג. רוב עבודתו מופקת ונעשית באזורים ציבוריים. רישומיו הדמיוניים מוצגים על רקעים פרי דמיונו. הכוס והקומקום משמשים כמטאפורה יצירתית, הקשר ביניהם ישיר לעיתים נדירות. בקונספט האומנותי שלו אין הכוס יכולה להכיל את מה שהקומקום יכול לספק, ולהיפך, אין הקומקום יכול לתת את מה שהכוס מוכנה להכיל.
